An amusing side-note on grinding herbs. Firstly, I should really pay more attention to those helpful suggestions from you, Judy. I did manage to grind the herbs (from my last order) without burning up any appliance motors. But, after experimenting with an arsenal of machinery – grain mill, coffee mill, meat grinder, blender – and spending a couple afternoon covering my kitchen with clouds of herb dust, I still couldn’t get a nice uniform powdered end product (darn those tree roots!). Based on this extensive personal research, I confidently conclude that a few bucks for grinding is a bargain! If any of your customers question the value of this service, I’ll happily send them details of my adventures.

Thanks for your speedy service. My husband and I are both enjoying the preparations that you sent. I have been extremely impressed with the Ba Zhen Tang, thanks so much for the recommendation.

Billy Vitruls, says…

Very instructive book. Easy to follow instructions and a list of available stores which supply the herbs. I have my warrior tonic aging as I speak.

Bryan Card, says…

I read your book, the Warrior as Healer and I’m pleased to see how easy it is to order the formulas described in your book. Thanks!

I have known the Joiners for 15 plus years. They have always taken the time to do the best for me and, for that, I am grateful. They have been the most efficient, courteous, customer-oriented, dedicated folks I have met. (I had the pleasure of meeting in San Francisco during an Iron Palm conference in 2003). They are the same on the phone as they are in person; just great people. Always courteous, always humble, and always helpful with his herb knowledge. Thank you.

I really enjoyed the book (Warrior as Healer) and the directness of it, that is to say, there was not a lot of useless info that I had to go through to get to the meat of the subject, no filler, just good information, I will be reading it again and again. Once again, a great book!

I borrowed Chinese Herbal Medicine Made Easy from the library and liked it so much that I'm planning to buy it for myself. This book is very well-written. The author wrote this book in a very easy to understand manner (in the layperson's language) so as not to do "analysis paralysis". Usually authors like to use fancy words and write out a lot of unnecessary words to pad the pages, but this book was not that type of work, making it easier for me to read and enjoy. From reading this book, I was able to understand and learn not just how to use & prepare Chinese herbal medicine, but I received a lesson on the history and background of Chinese medicine as well. The author also gave 10 suggestions to improve one's health. Of course, the main juice of this book are the recipes for healing different types of illnesses, and these illnesses were sorted alphabetically so you can find them easily like a dictionary.

I appreciate your friendliness and all of the information that you give to me whenever I have any questions. I have been very pleased with the quality of ginseng that I receive from you. May you be healthy and happy!!!!

Through my study of traditional Chinese martial arts I became acquainted with traditional Chinese healing, especially the use of herbs and dit da jow. I came across Thomas Joiners book the Warrior as Healer, this book had the answers I’d been looking for - formulas for healing injuries, increasing strength and stamina, and to help calm the mind for qi gong. TFSOC has provided a service to my martial arts training and health in general. A recent injury serves as an example: while training I dislocated my elbow, within a couple weeks and to the surprise of doctors and therapists I had regained full range of motion and strength. Besides having youth on my side, I believe part of my speedy recovery is in debt to Chinese herbs, namely the Shaolin Shuang Jin Xue Gu Dan formula. Thanks TFSOC for providing a quality mail order Chinese herbal service!

I did just like the directions said and made me some blood cleanser tea. It’s good! I like the taste; I add a little sugar and it’s just right, plus it’s so invigorating and energizing. May God bless you!

After so many experiences of trying to obtain information and assistance from Martial Artists, Herbalists, etc., I have found that they are unapproachable, too busy to help, or they were just interested in making money! I have never had such a good response from anyone as I have from you. All this goes to show what a dedicated and approachable person you are.

The service from seaofchi.com is superb. Your formulas products have been most helpful; I have publicly praised your competence and passed your website on to friends and students.

Michael Blohm, says…

I do appreciate your business; it's nice to find an online retailer of such quality and rare products.

We need people like him in the martial arts world. Most herbalists that are martial artists keep the kung fu aspect of herbs as a secret. This book is short, nice and simple. I'd say one thing people would not like about his way of making herbs is that yes,  it is, VERY TIME consuming (to prepare herbs) and it requires a lot of shelf space during the process which is not a plus in the modern world.

O-Sensei Porter, says…

I have received the beautiful book and I think it is an excellent contribution to the literature of the Martial Arts. The whole subject of herbal and Chinese medicine is very interesting.

Peterdee, says…

Well written and well-presented information and good cross-referencing of Chinese and western botanical names of materials and there therapeutic attributes.I would have liked to have seen herbal (plant) materials to replace items like 'Tiger bone' and 'Sea Horse' that are very endangered and on the brink of extinction! Apart from the above caveat I think this is a very good research document. Every practitioner should use this as a springboard to researching martial arts medicine for themselves.

Thanks for being there and helping me to understand these Chinese herbs. I don’t feel like I’m just someone on your mailing list. After speaking with Judy and Thomas Joiner and reading your emails, I feel like I have a couple of friends on the other coast. You are a Godsend.

Russell Greathouse, says…

What a joy it has been to be in touch with a spirit like yours. I have enjoyed our letters to one another and have benefited from the wealth of information you have given me. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for what you are doing to help me. I have not known such great compassion coming from a man that doesn’t even know me.

Sandy Braunbeck, says…

I received my order of Jing Wan Hong, I needed it for a rash, with itching broken skin that I’ve had for over a year. I have tried everything that the local health food gurus and traditional physicians have recommended some mild success initially then back to square one. I applied Jing Wan Hong last night and the itching stopped immediately! Some of the cracked skin was soothed and much of the dryness improved. Thank you.

The Warrior as Healer is a great book, and the information inside is priceless.

Susan Lynn Peterson, says…

If you are looking for traditional Chinese herbal formulas for use specifically by martial artists, you will find them here. The Warrior as Healer has formulas for liniments for hand conditioning, teas for healing injuries, and seasonal wines for maintaining energy and appropriate body temperature from season to season. It assumes that you have access to raw Chinese herbs and at least a basic knowledge of Chinese medical concepts. If you have those basics, it teaches you how to prepare decoctions, wines, and pills for use in martial training.

Victor Sydney, says…

I recently began reading the book the Warrior as Healer by Sifu Thomas Richard Joiner. Please convey my thanks and congratulations for his work which is thorough yet simple to understand.
