Aka: Niu Huang Chieh Tu Pein, or Bezoar Antipyretic Pills
This combination of gypsum, scutellaria and rhubarb produce an impressive brew that is very effective for relieving low-grade fever, inflamed teeth or gums, toxic swelling or gum abscess and oral ulcers.
It is especially helpful for tooth abscess; a dental abscess that develops when a pus-filled sac forms in the tissue at the root of a tooth. There are several possible causes: bacteria invading an injured tooth (possibly through a fracture), tooth decay infecting the root, or the accumulation of bacteria in deep pockets that form between the teeth and gums. This causes the affected tooth to throb and ache, making biting or chewing painful. If left untreated, infection will usually spread through surrounding tissue and bone, causing the glands in the neck and face to become swollen. In most cases swelling is accompanied by common symptoms associated with infection, such as headache and a low-grade fever.
Niu Huang Jie Du Pills is very useful for clearing infection and reducing pain.
