CHINESE GOJU MARTIAL ARTS |
Who
is the author, Thomas Richard Joiner?
Thomas Richard
Joiner is an active martial artist and certified instructor in both
internal (Chi Gong) and external (Chinese Goju)
marital arts styles. He has combined his knowledge of both the martial
arts and the healing arts to produce this e-catalog in addition
to the book the Warrior as Healer.
On the pages
that follow you will find all of the herbal formulas discussed in
the Warrior as Healer, this book is a traditional Chinese martial
arts training guide that places as much emphasis on nurturing the
spirit as it does on honing fighting ability.
For many centuries
herbs have been used by martial artists not only for injury management,
but also to increase sensitivity, improve energy levels, and most
significantly, raise consciousness.
This book provides
many recipes for formulas that have been used to stop bleeding,
speed the healing of fractured bones, and increase vitality, as
well as improve focus and calm the mind. All of the herbal formulas
that are discussed in the book the Warrior as Healer are available
on the pages that follow in this e-catalog. A majority of the formulas
are prescribed for short-term use as first aid medicines; however,
some of the formulas require long-term use to experience the desired
effects, and those formulas are noted accordingly.
For easy reference
the herbal formulas discussed in the Warrior as Healer are listed
in the order in which they can be found in the book.

According to
legend it was high in the Mao San Mountains of Northern China nearly
five thousand years ago, that secret Taoist Esoteric Practices were
first recorded by the Sang Ching Sect. Although Huang Ting Ching
(the Yellow Court Canon) was primarily based on sacred scriptures
written by Lao Tzu, the founder of Taoism, included among its contents
were the keys for deciphering secrets to little known Esoteric Practices,
along with detailed instructions for preparing herbal formulas that
were an integral part of life extension practices, nutrition, and
physical culture. Historians credit Huang Ting Ching with
providing some of the earliest documented evidence of the sect’s
use of specific Chinese herbal formulas as part of the physical
therapies, which included martial arts training.
Throughout martial
art’s illustrious history these legendary formulas have been
used for managing injuries, increasing (Chi) energy levels, and
improving performance. In spite of this fact, in recent years modern
martial artists have elected to discontinue using the ancient elixirs
in favor of multivitamin supplements, protein powder, and chemical
first-aid remedies, thereby threatening to bring an end to what
we believe is an important long-standing martial art’s tradition.
It was this
divergence from tradition that prompted us to create this catalog,
in order to provide a mail order source for purchasing many of these
ancient herbal supplements, as well as sharing information about
the simplicity of incorporating them into your martial art’s
training. Our ultimate goal is to re-focus attention on martial
arts herbal heritage and hopefully inspire the herbal renaissance
that in our opinion is long over-due.
Our sincerest
wish is that this catalog and the formulas contained within its
pages will benefit all martial artists, regardless of their style
or level of development, on an intellectual as well as a practical
level, and once the benefits of herbal use has been realized, that
this knowledge will be passed on, thus re-establishing a centuries
old tradition.
